Today is my grandmother’s 99th birthday.
People congratulate you on your birthday like they congratulate you for getting a hole-in-one or winning an award – as though it has everything to do with your ability. Granted, taking care of our bodies is certainly conducive to living a long life. However, as Grandma is quick to point out, each birthday speaks more about God’s faithfulness than our own power and control to mark the occasion. It’s “in Him we live and move and have our being,” regardless of how old we are. All we do, says Grandma, is take one day at a time and trust wholeheartedly in the God who loves us.
At 99 years of age, I think we can consider Grandma an expert on the subject.
